Traditional Agarwood Essential Oil Production Process
Raw Material Selection

High-quality agarwood—especially the resinous heartwood or even Kyara grade—is carefully selected. The quality of the wood directly affects the depth and complexity of the oil’s aroma.
Preparation
Chipping and Soaking

The agarwood is chipped into small pieces to increase surface area.

In traditional methods, the wood is soaked in water for several weeks or even months to initiate natural fermentation, which enhances the fragrance and facilitates oil extraction.
Distillation
Low Heat, Long Duration

Using traditional water distillation or hydro-distillation techniques, the soaked wood is slowly cooked over low heat in clay, copper, or stainless steel vessels.

The process often lasts over 100 hours, sometimes up to 200 hours.

Precise control of temperature and fire is crucial to preserve the delicate aromatic compounds.
Oil Collection

The condensed output includes both water and essential oil. These are separated naturally—typically by allowing the oil to float and then be hand-collected drop by drop.

The oil yield is extremely low, often just a few grams per kilogram of wood, making it rare and precious.

Green Crown

Thick Slice
"Thick Slice" doesn’t refer to physical thickness, but to a specific resin formation and material classification.
It comes from the inner section of the tree trunk, between the middle and the heartwood, where the resin concentration is highest. The material is dense, rich in oil, and has a substantial, weighty texture.
Top notes:
Woody smoke with subtle hints of fresh grass or dried herbs — like breathing in phytoncides deep within a forest.
Heart notes:
A blend of medicinal notes, frankincense, and a rich, mellow sweetness. The aroma is introverted and grounding, understated yet profoundly layered.

First Heart
Heartwood refers to the core of the agarwood tree where resin forms. It is the deepest, most concentrated part of the wood, known for its high density and rich oil content.
First distillation (also known as first draw) refers to the earliest and purest stage of oil extracted during the distillation process. It is the most scarce and concentrated, carrying the richest and most profound aroma.

Top-grade aged agarwood formed over an exceptionally long period, with rich oil content, high density, and deep, intense aroma—typically found in high-resin, old-growth trees.
